The number of blockages in swear pipes in Chisinau during the first months of this year increased by 14% compared with the corresponding period last year. According to the public utility SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, this year the company’s teams dealt with over 2,500 cases of blockage. Specialists say that in most of the cases the blockages occur through the dwellers’ fault, IPN reports.

In a press release, the company says the increase in the number of cases of blockage points to the greater irresponsibility of some of the residents of the capital city. In about 80% of the cases, the blockages are due to the irresponsibility of inhabitants who throw solid or sharp objects, paint, household and other kinds of waste in the WC and manholes.

The company’s workers carry out prophylaxis works so as to ensure the wastewater is fully removed. For the same purpose, a series of renovation works were performed on sewer pipes with the own financial resources. To improve the services in this area, about 15 km of sewer networks will be rehabilitated within the Priority Investments Program financed by the EBRD and EIB.
