Number of births reported to rise in Tiraspol

The number of births delivered at the Mother and Child Center in Tiraspol rose in nine months of this year to 853, from 800 in the similar period last year and 775 in 2007, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports. Against this positive background, Tatiana Spynu, department head at the Center, points out a number of serious problems: “Nine in ten pregnant women admitted have pathologies. A big problem is anemia”. The authorities of the self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria declared 2009 the Year of the Family. In this context, a governmental mortgage plan has been developed to support families. In addition, benefits of 1,644 Transnistrian rubles (2,382 lei) are awarded at birth for the first baby and of 2,000 rubles (2,898 lei) for every next child.
