The local subdivisions of the state-run document issuing company “Registru” is daily receiving about 900 applications for biometric passports, up 34% on October 2013 – February 2014, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology said the upward trend is due not only to the decision to abolish the visa requirements for Moldovans, adopted by the European Parliament and the European Council, but also to the preparations for the summer vacation.
According to statistics, the number of applications starts to increase in March and reaches a peak in July. For example, last July there were received up to 1,700 applications daily.
The decision on the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the EU is projected to take effect at the end of this May.
