The number of traffic accidents in Chisinau has doubled following the unfavorable weather conditions. As many as 24 accidents occurred in the capital city last night and this morning, January 26. The authorities say road traffic in Chisinau and in the country moves in winter conditions, but there are no blockages.
Press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Natalia Stati has told IPN that about ten accidents are recorded annually in this period, but now the figure is twice higher. No person was hurt and no significant damage was sustained in the accidents. “The drivers ignored the elements and the wet road and the vehicles collided,” she stated.
The Chisinau Public Transport and Communications Division’s head Igor Gamretski stated for IPN that last night’s snow didn’t cause problems to traffic in the capital city. “The roads were cleaned and there are no jams,” he said.
Contacted by IPN, Sergiu Capatana, of the State Road Administration, said all the public roads are accessible and no congestion was reported. More than 500 road workers were involved in patrolling and snow and ice removal works last night. The works were more intense in northern and central Moldova.
According to forecasters, it will snow in most parts of the country on January 26, but it will grow warmer the coming days. The drivers are urged to be maximally prudent in traffic and to adjust the speed to the conditions on the road and in traffic.
