Number of 4G mobile Internet users up by 21%

In 2021, the total number of users who accessed 4G mobile Internet increased by 21% on the previous year, amounting to almost 2 million people. 95% accessed mobile Internet through smartphones, and almost 90,000 used dedicated mobile Internet (via modems/cards), show data from the National Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Agency (ANRCETI).

According to the data reported to ANRCETI by the three providers of mobile services (Orange, Moldcell, Moldtelecom-Unite), in 2021 the penetration rate of mobile broadband Internet access services increased by 13.7 points to 103.5%. In 2021, a user who accessed mobile Internet from his or her phone consumed an average of 4.8 GB of monthly traffic, and a user who used dedicated Internet access 30.9 GB.

Total revenue obtained on the respective market increased by 6% to 1.3 billion lei. The average monthly revenue per mobile broadband Internet user, through smartphones, decreased by almost 4% and amounted to 40 lei, and the average monthly income per mobile Internet user through dedicated access increased by 3% and amounted to over 90 lei.

At the end of 2021, the three providers of mobile broadband Internet services had the following market shares by revenue: Orange Moldova - over 60%, Moldcell - about 33% and Moldtelecom - over 6%.
