NOW’s unwillingness to negotiate could indicate snap elections, opinion

Igor Gârlea, the jurist of the Democratic Party’s youth organization, says that the unwillingness of the electoral bloc NOW to negotiate a coalition could be an indication that it prepares for snap elections, which he thinks is a wrong tactic.

“When the Democratic Party is offering the top job in the Government and is willing to negotiate other cabinet positions, they refuse to even sit down and talk”, Gârlea said during a talk show on Vocea Basarabiei TV. In his opinion, NOW has refused the prime-minister post because it fears the responsibility that comes with the job.

Ion Cebanu, president of the Liberal Youth, believes NOW might be in talks with the Socialists to reach some form of partnership. “You don’t have to enter a formal alliance with the Socialist Party. (...) Agreeing on just two issues, a neutral speaker and a set of bills to be proposed and passed, should be enough. And then snap elections should follow”, said Cebanu.

The Democratic Party has offered NOW to negotiate a parliamentary majority at least on two occasions. Last time, the Democrats suggested they were ready to trade off the prime-minister position for the ability to form a government. NOW categorically refused both propositions.
