The electoral bloc NOW is proposing its two co-presidents Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase for the positions of Prime Minister and Speaker, respectively. The announcement was made at a press conference today.
Maia Sandu declared that Moldova is in a grave situation and cannot afford governments that are not trustworthy. NOW is ready to form a minority government, since, according to Sandu, there appears to be no solution to a parliamentary majority in sight. Sandu believs that a NOW government will be able to mend relations with Moldova’s foreign partners.
NOW also announced it would formally become a political bloc, as the passage of elections rendered its status as an electoral bloc obsolete. In Parliament, the bloc will have two separate groups, with Maia Sandu leading the PAS group, and Andrei Năstase the DA group.
Yet another announcement was that NOW would run also as a joint bloc in this summer’s local elections.
Asked whether the bloc would join President Igor Dodon for today’s scheduled talks over potential government formation, Sandu avoided a straight answer, telling reporters to wait until 4:00 p.m. and see.
