The electoral bloc NOW today has formally requested the Constitutional Court to annul the election results in five single-member districts and not award the respective victors their MP seats.
The bloc said in a press release that the past elections were overall neither free, nor fair, “but in these five single-member constituencies the voting fraud reached unimaginable levels”, adding that “validating such elections would amount to a direct affront to the basic principles of democracy”.
The contested districts include no.47 and 48, the two ones opened for the Transnistrian region, won by the nominally independent Alexandr Oleinic and Viorel Melnic, respectively. The voting process for the two constituencies was reportedly marred by organized transportation of voters coupled with vote buying.
NOW also contests the winners of constituency no.4 – Socialist Vladimir Mizdrenco, constituency no 18 – Ilan Shor of the eponymous party; and no.17 – the Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahotniuc.
