The project “Novateca” will be extended at national level, ICT Minster Pavel Filip announced in a meeting with the director of the organization that launched it, IPN reports.

IREX Moldova director Evan Tracz said that over the two years during which the project was implemented on a trial basis, 68 public libraries in 12 district centers were equipped with computers. More than 400 librarians were trained to facilitate the users’ access to computers, online information and services. Some of the libraries created websites and help other entities from settlements to use the Internet for gaining knowledge and for promotion.

The program is implemented with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In Moldova, there are 1,350 libraries.
