Nothing bad will happen if ASM president is excluded from Government, analyst
Political analyst Bogdan Tardea believes that nothing bad will happen if the president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) is no more an ex officio member of the Government.
Bogdan Tardea stated for Info-Prim Neo that the ASM president’s role in the executive is not clear. According to him, a reason for excluding academician Gheorghe Duca from Government may be his political past.
“The Academy of Sciences should deal with science. I do not understand the role of such a position in the Government. There is also a political feature. Mister Duca was a candidate for the presidency in 2005, when the PCRM governed the country. He was a member of the Government during the Communist administration and this arouses suspicion,” said the analyst.
Gheorghe Duca told earlier Info-Prim Neo that the idea of excluding him from Government existed last year as well, but it was then reached the conclusion that the president of the ASM should be a member of the executive as he represents the entire scientific community.
The president of the ASM has been an ex officio member of the Government since 2004, when the Science and Innovation Code was adopted. The Governor of Gagauzia is also an ex officio member of the Government.
