Note of protest from the Kremlin presented to Moldova’s ambassador to Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation summoned the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Moscow Lilian Darii to present him with "a note of protest against the discriminatory, unfriendly actions of the official Chisinau towards the short-term Russian observers of the OSCE/ODIHR mission to monitor the presidential election in the Republic of Moldova", IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Ministry, "before the first presidential round and the constitutional referendum of October 20, the Moldovan authorities refused without reason the accreditation of five international observers from Russia, and before the second round on November 3, three Russian members of the OSCE/ODIHR mission could not enter Moldova through the Chisinau Airport, although they had been accredited by the Central Election Commission of Moldova".

Moscow describes the actions as "a serious violation by Chisinau" of its international commitments, in particular the 1990 OSCE Copenhagen Document and the 2002 CIS Convention on Standards for Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms, documents to which the Republic of Moldova is a party.

The Russian diplomatic service also said that a similar request was addressed to the OSCE/ODIHR leadership, through the Permanent Mission of Russia to the OSCE in Vienna, "in connection with the serious actions by the Moldovan authorities towards international observers in Russia.”
