Not having running water is a major disadvantage, says Maria Manole, mayor of Zubrești village in Strășeni district. This will be partially fixed thanks to a EU-funded project, after the community will install two filter stations at the local school and kindergarden that will make well water safer to drink.

“We in Zubrești, still do not have a water supply system, but we must learn to use water rationally. If we don’t consume water rationally, we risk not having water for consumption”, said Manole during an IPN livescast discussing the EU4Moldova: Local Communities Program.

Zubrești is one of the four rural communities in Straseni district selected for the Clean Water for All project under the Program. In addition to the filters, the project will also connect 10 vulnerable households to the sewer system.
 
Also, an information campaign will be organized to promote the efficient management of water resources and reduce pollution.

“It is very important for people to be aware of why the connection to the sewage network is needed and how important it is to consume water rationally. In this regard, three training sessions will be organized, which will take place in the school and in the kindergarten. A guide and informational materials will be developed for the teaching staff, which can later be used in the lessons. In addition to improving water and sanitation services, it is very important that the project contributes to raising people’s awareness. Everyone must understand that we must be friendly to the environment”, said the mayor.
