Not all Romanian customs checkpoints are willing to cancel taxes
Moldovan citizens who cross the Romanian border through the customs points in Galati and Oancea will pay, at least for the moment, the border taxes, although the Government of Romania suspended this taxes on Wednesday, January 10, because they do not comply with the legislation of the European Union.
According to the Romanian press, although the prefect’s offices of border districts suspended the ecologic and sanitary tax on Thursday, several local councils said they are against this measure. One of them is the Galati District Council, the chairman of which, Eugen Durbaca announced he will not suspend the ecologic and the sanitary tax at the Galati customs point.
On the other hand, in order to comply with the decision of the Governemnt the Galat Perfect’s Office announced that it has order the suspension of the taxes at Galati-rutier and Oancea. Moreover, the District Inspector of Galati Road Police said that the taxes are not collected anymore starting Thursday morning.
According to estimations, the local councils in Galati and Oancea lose about MDL 2 mln annually by suspending these taxes.
