Not all children with pronunciation problems benefit from speech therapy in kindergartens
The number of children with pronunciation problems that need treatment is larger than the number of speech therapists working in the Chisinau kindergartens. Over 600 children form part of the 34 speech therapy groups working in 13 kindergartens, Maria Povorozniuc, senior specialist at the Pre-university Management Division, said at a meeting of the Board of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Besides the fact that the groups must be specially outfitted, there is no service in the country that would diagnose the children. During an inspection at the institutions were such groups works, carried out during April-May, it was ascertained that doctors’ recommendations are general and do not refer to every case apart as they should, Maria Povorozniuc said.
Ion Vrancean, head of the Education Division in Chisinau’s Buiucani district, proposed opening a speech therapy center in the capital city. But his proposal was rejected by General Division of Education, Youth and Sport as there is no money. Another reason invoked is that the children with pronunciation problems should be integrated into the groups of the other children. Sometimes, the parents insist that their children remain in the ordinary groups.
“We should strengthen what we have how. It is difficult today to introduce innovations,” said the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb.
Only 1-2 children from a speech therapy group go to special schools later. The rest attend ordinary schools.
