Nondiscrimination Coalition says Anatol Plugaru should apologize to the Roma
The Nondiscrimination Coalition demands that former MP Anatol Plugaru apologize publicly to the Romany people living in Moldova. Otherwise, the National Roma Center will sue him, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a protest letter from the Coalition. The letter comes after Anatol Plugaru in a news conference said that Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu does with the Constitution as the Romanies with the child – give birth to a new child rather than wash the dirty one.
According to the Romanies, Plugaru's statements are racist and discriminatory. “Such expressions used by public figures offend the Roma ethnics and the people who share the European values of equality and nondiscrimination, social inclusion and cohesion,” the Nondiscrimination Coalition says in its letter.
The letter was signed by Nicolae Radiţta, chairman of the National Roma Center of Moldova, Vera Turcan and Dana Cotici, representatives of the National Youth Council of Moldova, Serghei Ostaf, head of the Resource Center for Human Rights, Vanu Jereghi, head of the Institute for Human Rights, Ruslan Stanga, head of the Association “Ograda Noastra”, and Valeriu Nicolae, head of the Policy Center for Roma and Minorities.
