Nondiscrimination Coalition calls on population to be calm and tolerant
The Nondiscrimination Coalition encourages the authorities to adopt the Antidiscrimination Law in the shortest time possible, not because the European institutions insist, but in order to protect the people discriminated in a society that is so intolerant. It warns the people to be attentive to misinformation and manipulation and be calm and tolerant, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the coalition, the peaceful coexistence of the people in a state is possible only if diversity is accepted and respected. “The Nondiscrimination Coalition is concerned about the statements and deeds of some public persons and groups of people who threaten with physical harassment and incite discrimination agsissnt certain social groups,” reads the communiqué.
The Coalition says that more persons representing the religious and political circles try to frighten the public opinion, saying the adoption of the Antidiscrimination Law will lead to ‘islamization and homosexualization’ that are described as apocalyptic catastrophes, without saying what dangers they pose.
“The promoters of these ideas threaten with possible civil clashes and exert pressure on the authorities so that they abandon the idea of adopting the law. They also claim that civil society, including the Nondiscrimination Coalition, conspire against the Orthodox Church with the aim of discrediting it. We think the arguments based on “Moldova – a Christian country” are irrelevant as Moldova is a laic state, where the Constitution guarantees the equality of all the citizens,” reads the communiqué.
The human rights organizations seek equal treatment for everyone, without making threats or provoking civil clashes. “We warn that the free expression has limits and the calls to violence and the racist and discriminatory statements used by representatives of the Church exceed these limits and are liable to punishment,” says the Nondiscrimination Coalition.
The communiqué was issued after the Alliance of the Orthodox Associations demanded that the Prime Minister oppose the adoption of the Antidiscrimination Law. Otherwise, drastic measures will be taken to prevent the country’s ‘sodomization’.
