A new television channel that promotes the rights of minorities in Moldova was launched Tuesday. Called Noah TV, the station aims “to build an intercultural dialogue between the ethnic minorities of Moldova”, said the founder of the Roma Awareness Foundation Victorina Luca.
Luca told a press conference that the launch was possible thanks to the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. “Noah TV began to take wings within a project from 2001 to 2024, and the actual plan took shape in 2016. Initially, the goal was to promote human rights through radio broadcasts, a project also developed with the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands”.
“Noah TV is not an ordinary channel. It comes to your home to show you society and the people around you a little differently, to show you that, look, there are multiple minorities living in Moldova and that we are all citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and that we have a voice, and that we have rights”, declared Victorina Luca.
The founder of the Roma Awareness Foundation said that the purpose of station is to build an intercultural dialogue between the minorities of Moldova, to provide a platform of knowledge, rights and empowerment of Roma women, among other ethnicities, to combat and prevent domestic violence. “The channel’s programs are meant to change the mentality, a change for the better. There will also be programs for youth and children”.
Journalist Elena Sîrbu, who leads the Roma Women’s Platform Romni, noted that within Noah TV there is an intention to create a platform for discussion, from a social, cultural and political point of view. “There will be broadcasts on public policy aimed at improving the life of the Roma, including the participation at the decision-making level of the Roma communities, as well as for all minorities”.
In this context, Elena Sîrbu proposed to all non-governmental organizations, regardless of their target groups, to come up with ideas about what they want to be discussed on the new channel. Noah TV will address human rights issues and focus on the Roma women community. A hotline will also operate, where those interested can anonymously ask questions and receive specific answers.
