Due to the pandemic, the authorities decided against opening polling stations in kindergartens and dormitories. Polling stations will be set in schools, while the students' vacation will be extended, which allows school disinfection the day after the election.
On Monday, following the country's top leadership meeting, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that the country is going to face a very serious challenge, namely the presidential election. All necessary resources are allocated in order to ensure that all citizens can exercise their constitutional right to vote, including Moldovans abroad.
The PM said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is busy identifying the necessary spaces for polling stations abroad, which is a challenge due to the pandemic. The prime minister did not rule out difficulties concerning the opening of polling stations in countries affected by the new coronavirus.
Ion Chicu urged politicians not to politicize the topic of polling stations to be opened abroad, but to get involved in order to solve any related issue.
