No political issues to be discussed at 5+2 meeting in Vilnius
The parties to the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format are coming together in Vilnius today, November 30, after a pause of five years. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov has told Info-Prim Neo that this first formal meeting is a starting point in the negotiation process.
The meeting will last for two days. “The principles of the formal talks will be the main subject for discussion. We will not discuss political matters, only technical aspects that will help organize the activities that form part of the negotiation process,” said Eugen Carpov.
The second part of the meeting will center on the agenda of the talks. There will be agreed the basic elements that will be negotiated in the future – a special status for the Transnistrian region, economic aspects, guarantees and social insurance aspects and other matters.
”The negotiations are held in order to discuss issues and reach reasonable compromises, based on international standards and principles that meet the national interests of Moldova,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Transnistrian press reported that Transnistria’s representative at the talks Vladimir Yastrebcheak in the official meeting will demand that the principle of equality of the sides be respected.
The decision to resume the formal talks in the 5+2 format was taken during informal consultations in Moscow on September 22.
