The Ministry of Justice suggested changes to the Contravention Code. One of the modifications provides that the drivers will get no penalty points for the violation of particular traffic rules if the fine imposed by the police is paid within three days. The bill is to be approved by the Government and then passed by Parliament, IPN reports.
Under the bill, the period during which the fine can be paid in the amount of only 50% will be extended from 72 hours at present to three working days of the day the decision to impose the fine or the definitive court decision is made known. Those who will travel with the license numbers covered will be fined up to 900 lei.
Also, no penalty points will be imposed for the violation of the rules of registering motor vehicles, of having them inspected and for driving without having a driver’s license. The police officers will no longer be empowered to withdraw the driver’s license and to ban the person from driving before a court judgment is passed.
The Ministry of Justice proposes that the beginner drivers who violate the traffic rules typical of a particular driver’s license should be fined 1,800 to 3,600 lei and banned from driving for two to three years. If the person who assists the beginner driver allows traffic rules to be violated, this will be fined 3,000 to 4,500 lei and will get eight penalty points. The violation of the special driving rules in the probation period after obtaining a driver’s license will be penalized with a fine of 3,000 to 4,500 lei and eight penalty points.
