No parallelism between Kosovo and Transnistria can be admitted – OSCE PA Chairman
No parallelism between Kosovo and Moldova can be admitted, given the different nature of the two conflicts, Goran Lennmarker, the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly stated Thursday, May 17, at a meeting with President Vladimir Voronin.
According to the press service of the presidency, Lennmarker, who is also a Swedish MP, reiterated the position of his country on the support of the European aspiration of Moldova, which has all the rights to be a part of the united European family if it wishes so, the Swedish official said. He emphasised the fact that all those 7 factions of the Swedish legislature support the idea of the EU enlargement and of accepting Moldova as a member of the European Union.
Vladimir Voronin said that Moldova pleads for an unconditioned and quick re-launch of the “5+2” negotiation process. The head of state solicited the support of the OSCE PA in what concerns the resumption of the talks on the Transnistrian dispute, emphasising the fact that the main standpoint of Chisinau lays in the fact that any settlement option should be approved within the frameworks the “5+2” negotiations.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the situation related to the Transnistrian dispute and the European prospects of Moldova were also discussed during the meeting of the OSCE PA President with the head of the Moldovan diplomacy Andrei Stratan.
The OSCE PA President will visit Tiraspol on May 18, and afterwards will make press statements.
