The guests and residents of Chisinau this year could remain without the traditional New Year’s Eve concert that is staged in the center of the capital city. The central authorities that usually finance this concert said they do not have money for organizing it.
Contacted by IPN, Ala Paslariuc, head of the press service of the Ministry of Culture, said the traditional concert will not be staged because the budget is tight. Furthermore, the Great National Assembly Square that hosted the concert is occupied by protesters now.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca Monday said the Government cannot organize the event on December 31. Therefore, the services of the Chisinau City Hall will convene and decide if they will stage the concert themselves. “We will consider the financial possibilities. If we agree to hold the concert, it will take place near the Triumphal Arch,” he stated.
During many years, the Christmas concert has been organized by the Chisinau City Hall, while the New Year’s Eve concert – by the Government.
