No need to open Romanian consulates in Balti and Cahul – Foreign Minister

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration believes that there is no need to open Romanian consulates in Balti and Cahul, Minister Andrei Stratan told reporters after the Government session held on Wednesday, March 7. According to the Minister, the decision to open two temporary Romanian consulates in Balti and Cahul, in order to facilitate Romanian visa issuance process, was taken by President Vladimir Voronin and his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu in the period when a large number of solicitors had been registered and hundreds of persons formed queues at the Consulate in Chisinau. At present, we consider that the issue of opening consulates in the two cities is no longer timely, Stratan stated. The head of the Moldovan diplomacy mentioned that according to the statements made by the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, the consular section copes with examining and preparing documents for visa issuance.
