No decisions about transfer or suspension of macro-financial assistance were taken, European commissioner

No decisions concerning the transfer or suspension of the first installment of the macro-financial assistance from the European Union to Moldova have been taken. The situation is too hot and unclear now to take such decisions and is to be analyzed calmly because there are many questions here, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn stated in a meeting with Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu in Strasbourg, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

Johannes Hahn said the EU follows attentively the developments in the Republic of Moldova, underlining the importance of respecting the democratic norms and standards.

When the invalidation of the Chisinau early mayoral elections was discussed, Premier Filip informed about the creation of a working group that includes representatives of the Government and Parliament for examining the electoral legislation and eliminating the shortcomings that allowed the current situation to appear. The group will examine the relevant experience of other European states and will benefit from the support and expertise of the Council of Europe. Pavel Filip assured the European official that the EU will be regularly informed about the solutions that will be discussed within the working group.

The Prime Minister said the political developments in Chisinau should not have an impact on the practical cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union and noted that the Government remains fully committed to implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU.
