No-confidence motion against Recean Cabinet fails

The no-confidence motion against the Cabinet, submitted by the parliamentary group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, failed. After having been examined in the plenary session and put to the vote close to 03:00 a.m., the draft decision was rejected by the votes of 55 MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity. Eighteen BCS MPs voted in favor, IPN reports.

"Instead of helping Moldova to overcome the problems, you want to destabilize the country, while the Government continues to work for stability and peace," Prime Minister Dorin Recean said in the plenary session of the Parliament.

According to him, the Government worked out a plan to get ready for the heating season, which includes 44 measures aimed at ensuring energy security. The plan, which was approved by Government decision, relies on strong partnerships, especially with the European Union, Ukraine and Romania, which guarantee stability and continuity of energy supply.

"The Republic of Moldova has significantly increased its energy security by diversifying its supply routes and interconnecting with European networks. The consumption of natural gas on the right bank was ensured in 2023 at a lower price than that offered by Gazprom, saving US$61 million for the citizens," said the head of the Cabinet of Ministers

Dorin Recean also said that the Government is ready to manage all the risks associated with the cold season, including a potential humanitarian crisis and energy stability problems. "Only through an organized and rational approach, as we have demonstrated in recent years, can we protect the citizens and keep the Republic of Moldova on the path of European development," stated the prime minister.

In her speech, the MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Diana Caraman said that the Government shifts the blame for its incompetence onto the opposition. According to Caraman, a large number of citizens face abject poverty, but the rulers seem to live in another reality.

Another BCS MP, Alla Pilipetskaya, said that social and economic tensions have increased and citizens' lives have become more difficult. In her opinion, the Government's actions cost the country a lot. She also said that the Republic of Moldova needs a new team of professionals who will restore the people's trust and ensure long-term stability and development. "Resign!", said the BCS parliamentarian.

BSC MP Alla Darovannaya believes that this Government has shown lack of responsibility in the management of the state affairs. According to her, instead of focusing on reviewing economic, social and energy policies, in order to improve the lives of the citizens, this Government has deepened the crisis.

PAS MP Iulia Dascălu in her speech said that the opposition comes only with criticism, but does not recognize the achievements of the Government and the projects that changed the face of the Republic of Moldova, and that all mayors, regardless of their political affiliation, have benefited from these projects. "Through these projects, we managed to do a lot for our citizens," added the PAS MP.

The no-confidence motion is an instrument of parliamentary control exercised over the Government by the Parliament. According to the Parliament's Rules of Procedure, the document is adopted by a majority of votes of the elected MPs.
