No child from Chisinau Child’s House was sent to boarding school during the past four years
No child from the specialised municipal Child’s House was accommodated at boarding school when reaching the age of seven over the past four years. All the children have been placed with foster parents. These and other important results were made public at a festivity organised to celebrate 10 years of the foundation of the Municipal Division for the Protection of the Rights of the Child.
The Division’s head Svetlana Chifa said that among the main accomplishments is the reduction in the number of abandoned children and of children placed in residential childcare institutions. Alternative social services, specialised community centres for children and youth, temporary accommodation centres, day centres for children with special needs had been set up during ten years. The Municipal Division developed the network of alternative social services in partnership with international organisations and local NGOs. More children gained access to social services of a good quality.
The number of children attending community centres for children and youth rose from 3,168 in 2003 to 9,484 in 2006 after over 50% of the 48 community centres had been repaired and outfitted with equipment needed for activities involving children.
