No case of flu reported this season

No case of seasonal flu was recorded in Moldova this year towards the end of the flu season. As many as 285 cases of flu were logged in the corresponding period last year. Contacted by IPN for details, epidemiologist Alina Druc, of the National Public Health Agency, said such a situation is due to the implementation of the measures to prevent infection with COVID-19, IPN reports.

“COVID-19 is a respiratory infection that is transmitted as flu and the prevention and prophylaxis measures are the same as in the case of flu,” stated Alina Druc. She noted that the global incidence of influenza, including in Europe, declined by 99% and Moldova is not an exception.

The epidemiologist also said that samples for detecting flu and also SARS-Cov-2 were taken weekly. Over 600 samples had been examined this season until the 15th week, as opposed to over 900 samples in the corresponding period last. Of the over 900 samples, 285 tested positive for flu viruses.

Of the over 200,000 available flu vaccines, 98% had been used by March inclusive. There were immunized professional contingents and persons facing an increased risk of infection.
