No alcohol allowed in Chisinau's central square on New Year's Eve

Selling and drinking alcohol will be forbidden in the Great National Assembly Square during New Year's Eve festivities. The only exception will be mulled wine, which is formally not an alcoholic drink.

Additionally, the police will form filter-entrances to keep away heavily drunk people and people carrying guns.

Municipal Police deputy chief Silviu Musuc told IPN there will be six filter-entrances on Banulescu-Bodoni St and Pushkin St to secure the Square.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, more than 1,000 officers will be deployed to the Great National Assembly Square on New Year's Eve to make sure festivities proceed in a safe environment. Overall, some 4,000 police officers will work on holidays to maintain public order, regulate traffic, and respond to emergencies.
