Nistru war veterans: We will not allow destabilizing situation in Moldova

The participants in the 1992 Nistru war expressed their concern about the intensification of the separatist trends in southern Moldova and about the attempts to extend them all over the country. In a news conference at IPN, they said they will not allow political adventurers to destabilize the situation in the country.

A group of veterans representing the public association “Tiras-Tighina” said that the individuals who openly promote separatist ideas and repeatedly formulated threats concerning the country’s territorial integrity have lately taken on the false mantle of statehood in order to hide their real intentions.

“These mercenaries paid by the enemies of Moldova stage secret meetings in Comrat, Balti, Chisinau and afford to make different statements and propose hallucinating initiatives that the ruling political class and the competent state bodies do not penalize, for unknown reasons,” said the leader of “Tiras-Tighina” Anatolie Caraman. “They have the right to their own option concerning the country’s development. But they should state their position by projects, not by threats and calls to separatism.”

Ghenadie Cosovan, a member of honor of “Tiras-Tighina” and former minister of the interior, told the same news conference that there are 30 paramilitary organizations in Moldova, which train persons for possible armed attacks and terrorist acts, with a view to destabilizing the situation in the country. “But the authorities, instead of strengthening the special subdivisions, destroyed them. We no longer have subdivisions that would fight terrorism. We risk finding ourselves in the same situation as Ukraine,” he stated.

Ghenadie Cosovan noted that these paramilitary organizations are supported politically and, if things go on like this, the veterans will make public their names and the names of the politicians who protect them.

The veterans expressed readiness to support the authorities in their efforts to come closer to the EU. They called on the state institutions, first of all the Government, Parliament and the Presidential Office, to use the political authority they received by Constitution and by people’s votes and foil the intentions of persons and groups that pursue foreign goals and want to thwart the country’s integration into the EU by all means.
