A group of Nistru war veterans wielding crowbars today stormed a private house which they say is being illegally built near a memorial stone dedicated to Filip Lupascu, a volunteer commander who died in battle in the 1992 war, Info-Prim Neo reports. The veterans, who are members of the 1992 Tiras-Tighina Association, say the land for the construction had been granted illegally and a City Hall order was issued for its demolition. “Filip Lupascu died a hero's death and now they insult his memory. They have no respect whatsoever. They could have done everything legally and build this house so that the monument looks dignifying as well, but they did it secretly, they agreed with someone at the City Hall under the counter and they thought the could go away with it”, said Anatolie Caraman, the Association's head. The owners of the building fought back, throwing stones at the veterans. Several neighbors appeared shortly and attempted to convince the veterans to change their minds. They said that the City Hall's demolition order had been appealed and only the court had the right to decide on the matter. Filip Lupascu's widow and two sons were also present. “My boys were 6 months and 2 years old when their father died. The state has paid me a monthly pension of 150 lei for 18 years. I have always been in strained circumstances, struggling to raise my children. But when I asked for a plot of land on the street that is named after my husband, I was told to go to the auction. I simply can't afford it. But here are some people who took the land without permission and are building on it”, complained Maria Lupascu. The owners called the police, who attempted to intervene. However, the veterans failed to comply and two hour later the conflict was ongoing.
