Nistru war veterans stage demonstration of support at State Residence

The Nistru war veterans mounted a demonstration to support and encourage the head of state not to accept candidates for premiership from the ‘criminal gang’. A group of veterans went to the President’s State Residence to transmit this message to Nicolae Timofti. These were met by a large group of police officers, IPN reports.

“The goal of our demonstration is to ask the President not to accept to designate someone from the ‘criminal gang’ as candidate for Prime Minister. We will not allow this. We came to remind the head of state that he is the people’s representative and we want him to understand that he is supported when he takes a patriotic position for this country’s benefit,” said Chiril Motpan.

The Nistru war veterans also said that they are against any form of blackmail and intimidation of the head of state. According to them, if the President allows disgraced persons to apply for premiership, this will lead to a popular uprising in Moldova.

“The fact that someone is trying to blackmail and direct from behind, including the presidential institution, represents direct attempt to usurp the state power. This should lead to the immediate institution of criminal proceedings by the law enforcement bodies of the Republic of Moldova,” said one of the participants.

The President’s spokesman Vlad Turcanu went out and informed the veterans that Nicolae Timofti is holding consultations with the four leaders of the parliamentary groups that intend to form a majority. Afterward, the head of state will state his position as regards the candidate that is to be nominated for premiership. Turcanu noted that the head of state needs public support.
