A hybrid war could be waged in Moldova, similar to that in Ukraine, to prevent the country from following the path to European integration, chairman of the Association of Nistru War Veterans “Tiras-Tighina” Anatolie Caraman said in a news conference at IPN.

Anatolie Caraman, who stated also the position of the administration boards of a number of public associations, said that being concerned about the situation in the country, he decided to make revelations about the hybrid war that is being planned and staged by Russia. He noted that the Russian intelligence services always had their agents infiltrated into the Government of Moldova and now promote their interests through the agency of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” that united with two representatives of the pro-Russian forces - Igor Dodon and Renato Usatyi.

Anatolie Caraman stated that he and his colleagues since 2012 have regularly furnished the government and the public with data about frauds committed at state-run companies as part of these actions aimed at thwarting the country’s current external development course. In 2013 they informed the authorities about radical and extremist groups that aimed to create autonomous regions in Moldova. They also informed the head of state about the wrongdoings committed at the Ministry of the Interior and about the preparation of armed groups that were to undermine the power.

“We analyzed the union of the three – Dodon, Nastase and Usatyi – and established that a hybrid war could soon start in Chisinau. We call on the rule of law institutions to examine the situation and to prevent bloodshed. We also call upon the embassies and international organizations not to allow Moldova’s European course to be thwarted,” said Anatolie Caraman.

Veaceslav Balacci, chairman of the Association “Reality and Truth”, said the Russian propaganda through the mass media forms part of this hybrid war. “The news bulletins in Moscow said the Romanian troops will invade in case of an escalation of the situation in Chisinau. This is manipulation, but this is not all. There are a lot of websites and portals supported by Russia to disseminate propaganda,” he stated.

The veterans asked that the government should bring things in order in the mass media sector and should ban the media outlets that cause destabilization in the country through propaganda.
