The veterans of the Nistru war intend to form people’s guards to maintain public order during the anti-government protests staged in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau. Such statements were made in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Former combatant Anatol Macovei, who is taking part in the protests mounted by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in the center of Chisinau, denied the accusations that the people’s guards will be unlawful bodies. “We only stated an intention, but were already accused by the mass media loyal to the government. We do not want to create a military body. We will set up groups to help the police maintain public order. I only put forward an idea and everyone interpreted it as they wanted,” he stated.
Protesting veteran Mihai Tomachinski said that instigators appeared during the October 4 protest, who tried to destabilize the situation. “We have protested peacefully. What happened last Sunday was due to instigators. We had experience in maintaining public order and will contribute to maintaining it now. But we will continue to protest. We didn’t struggled in 1992 for this country to become captured by oligarchs,” he stated.
Former minister of the interior Ghenadie Cosovan, who heads the veterans organization “Faith to the Motherland”, said that even if he does not take part in the protests staged in the central square of Chisinau, he is near his comrades. ”I wait for an invitation only and I could join my former mates. The Nistru war veterans were intentionally dispersed. If we unite, we will become a serious force whose voice will be listened to not only by the current government, but also by the future governments,” he said.
