Nistru flood waters inundate Stefan-Voda district

Southern Moldova is under the water. The Nistru flood waters on August 4 inundated Purcari village in Stefan-Voda district. Thirty-one houses in this village were under the water in the afternoon. Another five have collapsed. In Rascaieti village, which is several kilometers from Purcari village, seven houses have been flooded, while two destroyed completely, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry of Defense. The danger of floods in Olanesti village is imminent. The Olanesti-Crocmaz motorway is close to being flooded. Some 50-60 houses in the village are in the risk zone. If the barrage built to stop the waters yields, the local authorities will order the evacuation of the residents. A group of 30 National Army military men are now strengthening the barrage. In Danuteni village, which is situated on the bank of the Prut, 20 National Army soldiers evacuate the population. The water passed over the dam built in Macaresti village in Ungheni district and is heading for the houses located in the lower part of the settlement. According to the latest reports, the water in the Dnestrovsk dam located on the Nistru floods over the dam by 1,350 cubic meters per second, the most serious situation being near Bender. On the Prut, the situation remains critical near Ungheni.
