The fielding by acting mayor Nistor Grozavu of candidates for deputy mayor to the Chisinau Municipal Council takes place with violations of the Law on the Status of Chisinau Municipality and the Constitution, the Liberal Party (PL) says in a press statement.
According to the Liberals, the nomination of candidates for the post of deputy mayor is the prerogative of the mayor general of Chisinau municipality, in this case Dorin Chirtoaca who was elected by the citizens, not of the acting mayor Nistor Grozavu, who has a limited term for managing the internal affairs, not a complete one.
The Liberals say the attempt to include the appointment of two deputy mayors in the agenda of the October 31 meeting of the CMC was made as part of a tacit alliance between the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists, which break the law and want to usurp the posts at the Chisinau City Hall.
“Nistor Grozavu cannot propose candidates for deputy mayor of Chisinau and cannot name them later by order,” said the PL.
The two proposed candidates are Silvia Radu, ex-director of Gas Natural Fenosa and a candidate in the 2016 presidential elections, and Ruslan Codreanu, municipal councilor. The issue was removed from the agenda of the October 31 meeting of the CMC, but appeared again in the agenda of the meeting scheduled for November 3.
