Nisporeni prosecutor investigated for acts of corruption

A prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Nisporeni district was arrested on suspicion of passive corruption. He is accused of asking and receiving US$500 and 2,000 lei from a man for dropping a case involving the denouncer, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), for yet unknown reasons the prosecutor didn’t deliver on his promise and accepted to return the money taken from the man. He was caught in the act of giving back the money in his office.

Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin took legal action over passive corruption against the prosecutor. This faces 7 to 15 years in jail and a fine of up to 200,000 lei and will be banned from holding particular public posts or performing a particular activity for a period of 10 to 15 years.

The PGO reminds that the acts of corruption committed by employees of the prosecution service can be reported through its line (022) 226-648 and directly to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, which is located at 198 Stefan cel Mare Blvd in Chisinau, on (022) 257-407.
