Ninety-five people evacuated after fire erupts in Chisinau apartment building
Ninety-five people living in a 22-storied apartment building on Testemitanu Street were evacuated from their flats early this morning, after a fire engulfed three apartments on the 17th and 18th floors. One person was injured.
Dorina Sochirca, spokesperson for the Civil Protection Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the firefighters were called at around 2:00 AM. Eleven fire engines were dispatched to the scene. It took almost three hours to around 50 firefighters to put out the blaze.
It was established that the fire started in an apartment on the 17th floor and then extended to the other two.
The owner of the apartment where the fire started was admitted to the Holy Trinity Hospital for detoxification. The woman's condition is stable, according to doctors.
The likely cause of the fire was an unattended burning candle. The circumstances of the fire are investigated.
7 fires were recorded across Moldova on Monday and overnight into Tuesday. One elder person was killed in a fire presumably started by a burning cigarette.
