Ninel Revenco: Red epidemiological alert is likely in Moldova

A red epidemiological alert will be most probably issued in the Republic of Moldova as the number of new cases of COVID-19 is growing, national vaccination campaign coordinator Ninel Revenco stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

“We had 142 cases per 100,000 people during the past 14 days. This means the orange alert can be soon replaced with a red alert and new restrictions will be imposed in society. But the restrictions will be decided by the expert commission,” stated Ninel Revenco.

Contacted by IPN for details, Ninel Revenco said the number of COVID-19 cases has increased not only in Moldova, but globally. The factors that lead to such a situation in Moldova include the stagnation of the vaccination process, non-observance of such recommendations as rerun testing of persons suspected of having COVID-19 and of those who had been in contact with infected persons and ignoring of such elementary sanitary norms as maintaining of social distancing, wearing of masks, disinfection of hands and surfaces and ventilation of rooms.

“A red alert can be issued indeed. Specialists will analyze the infection rate the past 14-7 days and the recommendations will be probably modified if the number of cases is on the rise.”

The coordinator said the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission will probably meet this weekend.

Ninel Revenco called on the unvaccinated persons to get a vaccine as swiftly as possible. She said measures should be taken to test persons suspected of having COVID-19 and to place them in monitored isolation so that they obey the recommended measures.

As many as 579 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Moldova on September 1, as opposed to 322 cases one day earlier.
