Nine non-judge candidates declared eligible to run for CSM

Parliament’s Legal Committee has cleared nine non-judge candidates to compete for becoming members of the Superior Council of the Magistracy (CSM).

The nine candidates are Aliona Corcenco, Iulian Muntean, Ana Tipa, Veaceslav Guțan, Leonid Chirtoacă, Vitalie Sîli, Nicolae Agachi, Vanu Jereghi and Lucia Popescu.

After the Legal Committee has decided on the eligibility, the candidates will undergo a pre-vetting procedure, followed by the competition proper, where the jury will examine the candidates’ applications and will conduct interviews.

The CSM is made up of 12 members. To date, Parliament has selected 3 out of 6 non-judge members. Meanwhile, the community of judges has elected 4 out of 6 members. Together with Judge Nina Cernat, a member from the previous CSM, eight members are now sitting on the Council.
