Nine new textbooks to be published for Moldovan and Ukrainian schools in Transnistria

The authorities in Tiraspol intend to publish nine new textbooks for the Moldovan and Ukrainian schools in the region by the end of the year, including a primer in the language called by the breakaway authorities “Moldavian”. Ala Popova, deputy rector at the Tiraspol-based Institute for Education Development, says the 'state' program called “Textbook-2009” aims to provide the schools with texts needed to prepare the students for the graduation exams. Popova added that in December the teachers in the region will receive new guidelines for all the disciplines. According to official data, Moldovan schools in Transnistria are provided with 87 percent of the textbooks they need, while the Ukrainian ones with 38 percent.
