Nina Shtanski is for strengthening military potential of Russian peacekeepers

The threats against the security and peace of Transnistria haven't been completely removed and thus its authorities are interested in the strengthening of the military potential of the peacekeeping operations under the aegis of the Russian Federation, Transnistria's self-styled foreign minister Nina Shtanski said in a statement posted on the website of her agency. “The peacekeeping mission represents today the basis of our security. We must admit that for twenty years the international community hasn't offered any alternate guarantee of peace”, stated Shtanski. Tiraspol's position on the peacekeeping mission's status remains unchanged, and namely that it categorically cannot be reorganized. Nina Shtanski says that despite intentions from certain western actors to transform the peacekeeping operations, there is the official position of the states involved in ensuring peace in the region. “We should recall the numerous statements, including at president-level, which said that if the peacekeeping mission were to be transformed, this should only happen after the peaceful settlement of the political conflict”, said Shtanski, adding that the principle of synchronizing the mission's transformation with the settlement of the conflict is established in OSCE's Report no.13.
