Judoka Nikon Zaboroshchuk finished fifth at the European Judo Open that was held in Oberwart, Austria, IPN reports.
He scored four victories in the 81 kg weight class, against Romania’s Răzvan Bodea, Achraf Moutii of Morocco and Hungary’s Gergely Nerpel and Benedek Toth. In the semifinals, he lost to France’s Baptiste Pierre, while in the match for the bronze medal was beaten by Japan’s Kamui Watanabe.
At the competition in Oberwart, Moldova was represented by 13 judokas. Adrian Crijanovschii (73 kg), Cătălin Marian (81 kg) and Iurie Mocanu (90 kg) managed to win by two victories.
