Nicu Popescu: We are working on launch of new direct Chisinau-Tel Aviv flights

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu announced that new direct Chisinau-Tel Aviv flights will be launched. “We are working on this and hope to have a situation when direct flights between the capitals of our countries will be relaunched in the nearest future ,” the Moldovan official stated in a press briefing given together with his Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen, IPN reports.

Nicu Popescu said Moldova is interested in cooperation in transport and road infrastructure, in learning from Israel’s experience in general and emergency medicine, water management, agriculture, in countering cyber threats.

The official welcomed the completion of negotiations on a protocol to the agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Israel on the temporary employment of workers from Moldova in particular sectors in Israel. He said the signing of this document will eliminate intermediaries and excessive payments, will reduce employment costs, will order and legalize aspects of the employment process.

In the nearest future, there will be signed an agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Israel on the conversion of driver’s licenses. This way, common standards will be applied to determine the authenticity and legality of driver’s licenses. Also, Moldova expressed its interest in advancing the liberalization of roaming between the two states.

The ministries of justice of Moldova and Israel are to soon sign an agreement on legal assistance, based on the interests of the two states. As to security, Moldova reiterated that it supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemns Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Nicu Popescu also said that the victims of the Jewish pogrom in Chisinau of 1903 are commemorated this year and today the officials will lay flowers to the monument to the victims of that tragedy.

For his part, Eli Cohen said that a direct Chisinau-Tel Aviv flight will contribute to developing tourism and also to developing businesses and to increasing the volume of business and investment.

He also said that he discussed with Nicu Popescu the facilitation of a pilgrimage that will be made by Israeli citizens to Uman next month to take part in a commemoration event. It is estimated that about 30,000 Israelis will go to Ukraine via Moldova.

The minister of agriculture of Israel will visit Chisinau in October, when a common major project between the two countries in agriculture will be discussed.

Eli Cohen invited his Moldovan counterpart to take part in a conference that will be held in Israel in September to mark Israel’s 75th anniversary.
