Nicu Popescu says status of consulate in Odessa was finally decided

Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu paid a visit to the Consulate in Ukraine’s Odessa, announcing the definitive resolving of the issue concerning the status of this building. According to him, there had been suspense during a long period of time following illegalities committed by former governments. Now the consulate and the adjoining lot belong to the state, said the official.

“I met with employees of the consular institution to discuss the problems experienced by the citizens and our team here given the worsening of the security situation owing to Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine,” stated Nicu Popescu, being quoted by IPN.

The official noted that during the visit he saw the results of the works to repair the building whose first stage was recently completed. “Better conditions for the citizens” is the simple message I disseminate in support of the diaspora. After better conditions were created in Milan, the situation will be now improved here, in Odessa, and at other consulates of our country,” said the Deputy Premier.

Nicu Popescu transmitted the Diplomatic Merit Medal to Moldova’s Consul in Odessa Ion Chernyi for his courage and loyalty to the service in the interests of the citizens in difficult circumstances. According to him, despite the war the Consular Office has never stopped work.
