On Ukraine’s Independence Day, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its steadfast commitment to its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, declared Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, in a congratulatory message to the Ukrainian people.
“Ukraine’s Independence Day is a truly symbolic holiday amid an unjust war waged by Russia against the country, threatening its independence and territorial integrity”, noted the Moldovan official.
Nicu Popescu emphasized that “Moldova today is protected from any military threat thanks to the courage and resistance of the Ukrainian army, which our country is grateful for. The Republic of Moldova will continue to provide Ukraine with all possible assistance, both bilaterally and within international organizations. Let our neighbors and friends know that we stand with them and wish them peace and prosperity”
On 24 August 1991, the Supreme Rada of the then Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the Declaration of Independence from the USSR, resulting in modern-day independent Ukraine.
