Nicu Popescu: Moldova received strong message of support from U.S. for reform agenda

Moldova has received a strong message of support from the United States for the reform agenda, stated Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting with Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the margins of the 28th OSCE Ministerial Council, IPN reports.

According to Nicu Popescu, American assistance and expertise is useful in strengthening democratic institutions, fighting high-level corruption, advancing the justice reform, and improving the investment climate.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the development and strengthening of Moldovan-American relations in various areas of mutual interest as part of the Strategic Dialogue, the need to relaunch sectoral working groups in the field of justice and the rule of law, trade and economy, and energy security.

Diplomats exchanged views on the current situation in the Eastern European region, as well as recent developments in the Transnistrian settlement process. In this context, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu thanked his interlocutor for the United States’ support in the 5 + 2 negotiations.

Nicu Popescu is attending the 28th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which takes place in Stockholm on 1-3 December.
