Both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have made significant progress in implementing the recommendations of the European Commission, declared Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
“We hope this will serve as a solid basis for the start of accession negotiations by the end of this year” Nicu Popescu said during a video conference dedicated to the efforts made by Moldova and Ukraine to join the European Union.
“I stressed the importance of a closer cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine on the subject of EU accession, including through exchanges of experience among people involved in processes related to European integration. [...] In conclusion, I expressed my firm conviction that the future of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is in the great European family, a space of freedom, peace and prosperity”, declared the Moldovan official.
Nicu Popescu also reconfirmed the firm support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. Moldova will continue to offer its Ukrainian friends all the assistance possible, both bilaterally and within international organizations, the deputy prime minister added.
