Chisinau in the near future will host a delegation of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of Azerbaijan, which will sign a cooperation agreement with the Moldovan counterpart, the Azeri Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov stated after a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Nicu Popescu in Baku.
For his part, the Moldovan official said the range of discussed subjects equals a roadmap for revitalizing the Moldovan-Azeri relations, especially in the energy sector, investments and agriculture, with emphasis on fruit and vegetable processing.
Nicu Popescu underlined the sides’ readiness to restore the Moldovan-Azeri commission for economic cooperation in the near future and to hold a bilateral business forum under this commission that hasn’t worked for almost ten years.
As regards Azerbaijan’s readiness to increase the supplies of gas on the European market, Nicu Popescu underscored the strategic importance of the Southern Gas Corridor for the diversification of sources and methods of importing natural gas and for the building of Moldova’s energy resilience.
It was agreed that a new round of political consultations will be held at the level of state secretaries in the immediate period. Responding to the Azeri side’s request, the Moldovan side expressed its readiness to provide expertise in demining works.
Among the discussed subjects was Moldova’s interaction with Azerbaijan within international and regional organizations, including GUAM that is chaired by Moldova this year, given also the mutual support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries.
