Nicolai Ceban wins bronze at European Freestyle Wrestling Championship

Moldova won a medal on the very first day of the European Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship held in Finland. One of the leaders of the team Nicolae Ceban won bronze in the 97kg class.

In the duel for the third position, Ceban beat Germany’s William Harth. “A medal at the European Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship is a great success for the Moldovan sport. Our wrestlers exceeded our expectations as they already won a medal in an Olympic event. If comparing the European Championship of last year and this year’s contest, we can see considerable progress. The best result then was the fifth place,” president of the Moldovan Freestyle Wrestling Federation Victor Peicov has told IPN.

Today, April 2, Andrei Perpelita and Natalia Budu also had a good start and are now fighting for medals. Moldova is represented by 16 athletes. Ruslan Bodisteanu is the coach of the national squad. The competition in Finland ends on April 6.
