Ana Ursachi, the lawyer for the director of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Nicolae Vicol, said the criminal case against her client was started at the political order of the Democratic MP Vlad Plahotniuc, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 18, the lawyer said that Nicolae Vicol was arrested illegally as the report for his arrest was compiled with violations and in the absence of the defense. It was signed by a lawyer whom the defendant doesn’t know. Moreover, the evidence against Nicolae Vicol, possessed by the National Anticorruption Center, lost its legality as it was made public before the investigation of the case. Nicolae Vicol’s wife Tamara told the same news conference that her family became the victim of a dirty attack and their image was damaged following the searches performed by anticorruption officers in their house. “I had worked at the CCCEC for 10 years and won different diplomas. Now this institution treats me like a serious criminal. The actions of the National Anticorruption Center’s employees were aimed at intimidating us. The search lasted for about nine hours. I hope the court will take a correct decision and these actions will be considered abusive,” said Tamara Vicol. Speaking about the building where they live, Tamara Vicol said that it was constructed for three families – for them, their parents and their sister-in-law. “All the financial resources were earned legally,” she stated, adding that she can say from her experience that the National Anticorruption Center is the most corrupt institution in the country. Nicolae Vicol was arrested by anticorruption officers on February 15. He is suspected of passive corruption, abuse of power, and violation of the inviolability of private life. On February 18, he was put under arrest for 20 days.
